[International Workers/Missionaries]
How to Write to
Our WGL District International Workers/Missionaries
It is difficult to write to people you don't know, so the first suggestion
is to get to know the International Workers/Missionaries (IWs/MS) personally. When they are home
on home assignment, have them to your home for a meal. Invite
them to do an activity together with you—a round of golf, a shopping
spree, or perhaps a major league baseball game. Really, they are people
just like you and enjoy the same things you enjoy.
Snail mail: Since mail takes longer to get overseas than it does to a U.S.
destination, it may be preferable in many cases to use e-mail instead.
Keep your letters short and encouraging.
Small Packages: Packages really take a long time and often are lost,
broken or stolen. Check
with the IWs/MS to find out what they really need and the best way to send
"care packages."
E-mail: While e-mail is quick, convenient and generally the best way to
communicate, be sensitive to the fact that some IWs/MS may have a dial-up
web connection. Therefore, e-mails (including attachments) larger than 1MB
can be difficult and take a lengthy time to download. Please do not send
unsolicited mail such as jokes or news items from mail lists that the
worker has not requested.
Keep it short - Have a point - Be encouraging - Share a Scripture Promise
- Don't bombard
them with questions - Don't expect an immediate personal
answer
